KTRM project was presented by ITIA-CNR at the General Assembly of the European project “DEMAT- Dematerialised Manufacturing Systems:A new way to design, build, use and sell European Machine Tools”. The project, of which ITIA-CNR is a partner, aims at developing a new generation of “dematerilized” machine tools and associated business models to improve the competitiveness of machine tool industry and manufacturing companies. One of key-objectives of the DEMAT project is to improve the flexibility of manufacturing systems, in order to cope with increasing market turbulence and reduced products lifecycle.

Rapid Manufacturing technologies, whose diffusion is the goal of the KTRM project, can support the same objective in sectors where high personalization is requested and production batches are small or unique. The DEMAT General Assembly, which took place in the facilities of the University of Stuttgart ISW, was attended by nearly thirty researchers and industrialists, representing leading European companies and research institutions in the manufacturing sector.
